Hey, It's Karysa! Your outdoor guide & photographer based in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island.
Being a Vancouver wedding photographer is a horrible job. Totally kidding. It’s the opposite. You get to spend genuine, happy moments with people, and it couldn’t be any more special to be a part of. This Vancouver Wedding was extra special because I went to photography school with the Groom. When he asked me to photograph his elopement at Burnaby Mountain, I was so excited and happy to do it.
Burnaby Mountain is one of those places that feels peaceful no matter the season. The view stretches across Vancouver and out toward the water, but what I love most about it is how quiet it can feel once you step into the depths of the surroundings.
For this elopement, the weather couldn’t have been more Vancouver: soft clouds, moody light that slightly makes everything look cinematic. As a Vancouver wedding photographer, this kind of atmosphere is a part of the place, and you can get creative no matter the weather.
We wandered along the trails near the lookout, stopping where the light peeked through the trees. It was perfectly peaceful in the wintertime. Not many people around, so things were pretty private.

These two kept things beautifully simple. No big plans or elaborate setups, just a heartfelt elopement at Burnaby Mountain surrounded by people who mattered most. I’ve known the groom since our days in photography school, so getting to document his wedding felt extra special. It’s wild how life brings things full circle like that.
Their ceremony was small and full of love. The groom’s dad flew in from Mexico to be at their intimate ceremony and surprised them. That’s the part I love most as a Vancouver elopement photographer, capturing those honest, unfiltered moments that you can’t plan.
After the vows, we took a slow walk through the forest paths for their portraits. The light filtered through the tall evergreens, and the golden hour glow started to pour over the mountain. You could feel how present they were with each other, calm, grounded, and completely themselves. These two were obsessed with each other!
This is exactly why I love photographing intimate weddings and elopements in Vancouver. There’s something powerful about stripping away the noise and focusing on what truly matters: the connection between two people and the adventure ahead.

Burnaby Mountain is one of those underrated gems that has everything you could want in a Vancouver elopement location: the views, forest trails, easy access, and that west coast mix of moody skies and glowing sunsets. It’s close enough to the city to keep things simple but still feels like you’ve escaped somewhere wild and peaceful enough.
As a Vancouver wedding photographer, I love it because it gives you variety in one place. You can have your ceremony overlooking the city, take portraits in the forest, and end the evening with that warm light dipping over the horizon. Whether you want something adventurous or just beautifully quiet, this spot adapts to the energy of your day.
The area has little corners that work perfectly for intimate ceremonies, grassy hills, tree-lined trails, and lookouts that catch the best light. If you plan your elopement around golden hour, the glow on the mountain creates the dreamiest tones for photos. And on overcast days (which Vancouver is famous for), the clouds act like a soft filter; everything looks timeless and even more romantic.
For couples planning an elopement in Vancouver or Burnaby, it’s also practical. There’s easy parking, trails that aren’t too steep, and several nearby spots for a cozy post-ceremony meal or champagne toast. It’s accessible, beautiful, and has that raw West Coast energy that makes photos feel natural.
If you’re dreaming of a wedding day that feels grounded in nature without needing to travel far, Burnaby Mountain is one of the best places to elope in Vancouver.

Eloping at Burnaby Mountain is beautiful, but a few thoughtful tips can make your day feel effortless, and your photos even better. As a Vancouver elopement photographer, I’ve seen what works (and what doesn’t) on the mountain, so here’s my guide:
Golden hour on Burnaby Mountain is pure magic. Sunrise and sunset give soft, flattering light for photos, while mid-day can feel harsh and flat. Planning your vows around these times ensures your photos capture the atmosphere and mood perfectly.
Even in summer, the mountain breeze can be surprising. Layers, jackets, or a wrap for your dress or suit will keep you comfortable — and calm. Comfortable shoes are a must if you want to wander the trails for portraits.
One of the best parts of a Burnaby Mountain elopement is the privacy. Fewer people mean more relaxed, natural moments that show your true connection. It’s perfect for couples who want a meaningful ceremony without distractions.
There are several lookouts, forest trails, and grassy areas that work beautifully for photos. As your Vancouver wedding photographer, I can help guide you to spots that not only photograph well but also feel personal and unique to your day.
Parking, permits, and trail accessibility are important to consider. Make sure your timeline includes walking or short hikes between spots if you want varied photos. A simple, well-planned day helps you stay present for each moment.
Finally, pick a Vancouver elopement photographer who understands how to work with natural light, read the environment, and capture the real energy of your day. That way, you can focus on your ceremony while knowing your photos will reflect the magic of the mountain.
