Ucluelet Graduation Photos at Amphitrite Point Lighthouse on the Wild Pacific Trail

You might be searching for Tofino photographers for your engagement, family session, wedding, or your elopement, and most people think you have to go straight to Tofino for ocean photos, but honestly, Ucluelet has some rugged awesomeness to be grateful for. Just a short drive down the coast, Amphitrite Point Lighthouse on the Wild Pacific Trail offers the same dramatic waves and rugged coastline with fewer crowds. It’s the perfect spot if you’re looking for something adventurous yet relaxed for your Ucluelet graduation photos.

I recently photographed a graduation session here with a young, pretty lady in a beautiful, cobalt blue, flowy dress. Her family had flown all the way from Alberta, and the session felt chill, casual, and spontaneous. There wasn’t a rigid plan. We wandered the rocks, let the wind play with her dress, and were entertained when her mom decided she was to stand on a rock in the ocean.

The weather in Tofino and Uclulet is hit or miss in October, and we really lucked out! It was warm enough to be in her dress and enjoy without the pain of being cold. I love the carefree energy that comes from being outdoors. Ucluelet’s coastline gives you that west coast drama with so much more privacy than Tofino, and the lighthouse adds a classic, timeless touch.

If you’re thinking about graduation or portrait photos along the coast, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Timing is everything. Early mornings or evenings give you the best light and fewer people on the trail.
  • Dress for movement. Flowing dresses, scarves, or even hats work beautifully with the wind and scenery.
  • Layer up. Even in summer, the ocean breeze can be chilly, so bring a cozy jacket for breaks between shots.
  • Keep it relaxed. Some of the best photos come from spontaneous moments, not stiff poses.

Amphitrite Point Lighthouse and the Wild Pacific Trail are just one example of how Ucluelet has hidden gems that feel like they belong in a magazine, but without the hassle of crowds. You get the Tofino-style west coast vibes and something truly unique for your photos.

If you’re dreaming of your own ocean session, I’d love to adventure with you. Whether it’s a graduation, portrait, or just a day to celebrate yourself, Ucluelet and the surrounding coastlines have so much to offer. Every session is a chance to capture real moments in a place that feels alive, wild, and memorable.
