For one Tofino proposal I photographed, the groom-to-be hired a local planning company (Pacific Rim Event Planning) that planned the whole experience. They hired to set up a beach picnic by LuxFino: cozy blankets and a charcuterie board. I hid in the trees, camera ready, pretending to be part of the landscape.

I bolted from the trees after he knelt… heart pounding, sand flying, and while photographing, just as she covered her face in disbelief. That kind of emotion — the shock, the laughter, the “oh my god this is really happening,”  you can’t relive it.

The Engagement Session

Once the question’s been asked and the tears are wiped away, take a few minutes for photos while everything still feels electric.
We’ll wander around the surrounding areas, get those just-engaged shots while you’re still caught up in it all.

After that, let yourselves breathe. Sit down, pour a drink, eat the snacks, and just take it in.

That same Tofino proposal had one tiny twist: a tsunami warning an hour before it happened.
The planners and I were checking updates nonstop, wondering if we’d need to move the setup to higher ground. Thankfully, it passed before they arrived. The waves were calm, the air still, and the sky gave us the most perfect post-storm glow.

It was a good reminder that not everything goes according to plan — but sometimes, that’s what makes the story unforgettable.

Proposal Location: Look for a secluded stretch of beach to ensure privacy. Consider proposing at the water’s edge with the waves gently washing ashore.

Props: Scatter seashells or rose petals in a heart shape in the sand. Place an archway with flowers and items from the sea. Light a long candle path to the spot of proposal. You can also bring along a cozy beach blanket and a picnic basket for a more cozy touch.

Photographer Assistance: Hire a photographer who knows the beach well and can time the proposal perfectly with the golden hues of a sunset or sunrise. It’s also important that your photographer has awareness of the tides because it’s possible the spot could be at high tide, not leaving much room on the beach. Consult with a photographer who will also provide creative ideas.
